Intro to Illustrator



                      Process Summary Description  

1.       Downloaded data from R drive to S drive and unzipped data
2.       Opened ArcMap and added cntbnd_jun11 and cities_feb04
3.       Selected View Layout
4.       Added Neatline
5.       Zoomed to data extent
6.       Added Scale Bar and adjusted to 100 miles for easier
7.       Changed layer names for Legend
8.       Added Legend
9.       Added North Arrow
10.   Saved map as Illustrator_BED.mxd to S drive
11.   Exported map as Illustrator_BED.AI to open in Illustrator
12.   Exited ArcMap
13.    Started Illustrator and opened Illustrator_BED.AI
14.   Chose Update when loading map
15.   Opened Layers Panel to organize layers for easier editing
16.   Created two new layers; Legend and North Arrow
17.   Dragged the Legend layer under Other 3 layer to Legend layer
18.   Dragged the North Arrow layer under Other 3 layer to North Arrow
19.   Verified all layers were correct using “EYE” icon
20.   Renamed the Other 3 layer to Scale Bar
21.   Renamed County Boundary layer to Counties layer
22.   Organized layers according to instructions
23.   Created Text layer
24.   Added Map Title, Source, and Prepared By to map
25.   Rearranged all items to organize map
26.   Saved map as Illustrator_BED.AI
27.   Exported map as Illustrator_BED.jpg to S drive
28.   Backed up all items to H drive
