W13 Loose Ends Part 1 & 2
Loose Ends Part 1
PART II: Process Summary Details
1) Open ArcMap
2) Select Data_Editing_BED, click Open
3) Crtl-click to
select multiple layers
4) Right-click a layer and select Group
5) Rename New Group Layer to County
by clicking on it twice and typing in the new name
6) Right-click on ‘Group Layer’ and
select Ungroup
7) Select Create under Graphs
below the View drop-down
8) Select Vertical Bar under Graph type
and Buildings under Layer/Table
9) Select Height under Value field
10) Select Building under X label field
11) Leave Match with Layer under Color
12) Select New Series under the Add
tab to add another dataset
13) Click Next and then Finish
14) Right-click on the graph to view Properties and/or Advanced Properties
15) Right-click again on the graph and
select Add to Layout, your graph
should appear in the map layout
16) Switch to Layout View if it did not automatically switch
17) Close out all maps in ArcMap
18) On the Layout toolbar, click Change Layout
19) Click the Open File in the lower right hand corner
20) Navigate to a saved map that you
would like to use as a template and select it and click Open
21) Click Finish, in the Data Frame Order window
22) Now you can the add the data layers
you need to perform analysis and you have the template for your map
23) You will only have to shift item
around and add any title and text to each new map
24) Dynamic text
can be used to save time
25) Insert Text to
begin
26) Items that you want to remain the
same each time, just type in the box
27) Items that you want to change each
time or Dynamic will be inside ˂ ˃, left and right arrowhead
28) The following <dyn type =”date”> is equal to 4/10/2012
29) The following <dyn type =”date”, format ="dd MMMM yyyy"> is equal
to 10 April 2012
30) Dynamic tags can be used for anything
that you want to add to each map
31) Save map as a template, whatever name
you want for future use

Loose Ends Part 2
PART II: Process Summary Details
1) Copy data from R drive to S drive and
unzip
2) Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
a folder that contains GIS data
3) Double-click on any .mxd file to open
it in ArcMap
4) Right-click on a layer and select Create Layer Package
5) Select Save package file to and navigate to where you want to store the
file
6) Click Validate, if Share is
available, select it and go to step 9, if not go to step 7
7) If you receive an error, double-click
on the line showing error and make any necessary corrections, go back to step 6
8) You are now ready to share that layer
9) It can be “Unpacked” in ArcCatalog
10) To create a Map Package, everything
in ArcMap, click on File and select Create Map Package
11) Select Save package file to and navigate to where you want to store the
file
12) Click Validate, if Share is
available, select it and go to step 9, if not go to step 7
13) If you receive an error, double-click
on the line showing error and make any necessary corrections, go back to step 6
14) You are now ready to share that map
15) Open the RepairDataSource.mxd from the LooseEnds
folder
16) Open the Layer Properties for one of the layers and go to Source tab
17) Close the Layer Properties window
18) Right-click on the Roads layer, click Data, and Repair Data Source
19) In the Data source window, navigate
to the Loosends folder, click on the
Roads.shp file and press Add
20) All reference data in that folder
will automatically be added to repair the links
21) Close the current map and open RelativePathNames.mxd
22) Click File, open Map Document
Properties
23) Verify ‘Pathnames: Store relative
pathnames to data sources” is checked
24) This allows moving the map and data
without loosing the path to the data
25) Open the Data Driven Pages Toolbar, then open the Data Driven Pages Setup
window
26) Check the box next to Enable Data Driven Pages and click OK
27) Click File, Export Map as a
PDF
28) In the Options, under Pages,
select Selected
29) Post items to Blog and dropbox

W12 Georeferencing
Process Summary Details
1) Copied data from R drive to S drive
and unzipped file
2) Open ArcMap, add buildings and roads
shapefiles
3) Extracted metadata for the two
shapefiles
4) Add uwf.jpg to the map
5) Save map as Georeferencing_BED.mxd
6) Add Georeferencing toolbar by right-clicking in toolbar area and
checking Georeferencing
7) Click the dropdown arrow in the Georeferencing toolbar, ensure uwf_n.jpg is selected, and select Fit To Display
8) Select the Add Control Points function to begin the georeferencing process
9) Identify a common point on the known
and unknown layer, use building corner, street corner or some other static
point that easily identifiable on both layers
10) Select a point on the unknown layer
first and then the known layer
11) Repeat this selection process four
more times with the points evenly dispersed throughout the area of concern
12) Select the View Links Table, view the residuals for any outliers and view on
the map
13) Repeat step 9 until you have about
ten control points
14) Ensure you have a low RMS(below 15)
15) Write down the RMS error in the
Process summary
16) Click the Update Georeferencing command
17) Save map
18) Add uwf_s1.jpg to the map
19) Repeat the process to georeference
this photo
20) After six points, open the Link Table
and change the Transformation dropdown
to 2nd Order Polynomial
21) Continue to add points until you are
satisfied with the appearance
22) Write down the RMS error and the
transformation type in the Process summary, hit OK
23) Click the Update Georeferencing command
24) Save map
25) Under Editor, select Start Editing,
then select the Buildings layer
26) Draw a polygon around the new
structure on the west part of the photo
27) Make the “Height” of 13 and ”BUILDING” number “072”
28) Stop Editing
and Save Edits
29) Under Editor, select Start Editing,
then select the Roads layer
30) Select Line and digitize the road
located on the east part of the photo
31) The road is named Campus Lane,
annotate attributes appropriately
32) Stop Editing
and Save Edits
33) Save map
34) Open ArcScene 10
35) Add Roads, Buildings, uwf_n, uwf_s1, and uwf_dem layers to map
36) Open Properties for each layer, except uwf_dem, and select the Base
Heights tab
37) Select “Floating on a custom surface” ensure uwf_dem is selected in the dropdown menu
38) Open Properties for the Buildings
layer
39) Under the Extrusion tab, check the “Extrude
features in layer” option
40) Type [Height] in the “Extrusion
value or expression:” area
41) Under “Apply extrusion by:” select
“adding it to each feature’s maximum height.” hit OK
42) Select Scene Properties under View
and change Vertical Exaggeration to 5
43) Export as Georeferencing_ArcScene_BED.jpg in 2D
44) Add jpg to ArcMap and then Zoom To
Layer
45) Switch to Map View
46) Finish adding needed items to map and
setting up item to view as stated
47) Save as Georeferencing_BED_ArcScene.mxd
48) Export as Georeferencing_BED_ArcScene.jpg
49) Upload to blog and dropbox

W10 Data Editing
PART III: Process Summary
1) Copy data from the R drive to S drive
and unzip data
2) Open ArcMap add layers GulfCounty_Roads and GulfCounty_Parcels
3) Open Editor toolbar and select Start
Editing
4) Open Select by Attributes tool and build query where Layer: is GulfCounty_Parcels,
Method: Create a new selection, "PARCELNO"
= '03334-000R' OR "PARCELNO" = '03341-000R', hit OK
5) Select Merge under Editor
toolbar, select either parcel in this case, and hit OK
6) Open GulfCounty_Parcels attribute
table to update owners’ fields
7) Double-click in the following fields
and update/verify accordingly
·
OWN_NAME= Gulf County
·
OWN_ADDR1= 1000 5th St
·
OWN_City= Port St Joe
·
OWN_State= FL
8) Under Editor menu, click Stop Editing and select Yes when asked to save edits
9) Under Select by Attributes tool and build query where Layer: is GulfCounty_Parcels, Method:
Create a new selection, "OWN_NAME" = 'Gulf County',
hit OK
10) Right-click GulfCounty_Parcles, click Data,
then Export Data and rename file CountyOwned.shp and keep other defaults,
hit OK and add data to map
11) Open attribute table for CountyOwned layer, left click Table Options, then Add Field called Acres with a field type Double
12) Right-click Acres column, select Calculate
Geometry, select Acres US (ac)
and click OK
13) Right-click Acres column, select Field
Calculator and type Round([Acres],2)
in the expression box, hit OK
14) Under Select by Attributes tool and build query where Layer: is CountyOwned, Method:
Create a new selection, "Acres" >= 20, hit OK
15) Add the table VICD.dbf to the map
16) Right-click CountyOwned layer, select Join,
select Join attributes from a table, use PARCEL_ID, using the VICD
table, and choose PARCEL_ID, as the table field, and Keep all records, hit OK
17) Under Select by Attributes tool and build query where Layer: is CountyOwned, Method:
Create a new selection, "VICD.VI_CD1" = 'V', hit OK
18) Right-click CountyOwned, click Data,
then Export Data and rename file SuitableParcels.shp and keep other
defaults, hit OK and add data to map
19) Select Start Editing under the Editor
toolbar
20) Under Select by Attributes tool and build query where Layer: is GulfCounty_Road, Method:
Create a new selection, "FID" = 4168, hit OK
21) Zoom to selected feature
22) Double-click on highlighted feature
to bring up Edit Vertices function
23) Mouse over one of the vertices until
the cursor turns to four small arrows, then left-click and hold the mouse button
and drag the vertex to the center of the road
24) Since the lines snaps to one edge or
the other, turn off the snapping feature for Vertex and Edge
25) Finish moving vertices to the proper
location and click the Finish Sketch
button on the Edit Vertices toolbar
26) Click Save Edits under the Editor toolbar
27) Double-click Create Features on the Editor
toolbar located at the end
28) Double-click GulfCounty_Roads in the Create Features window
29) In the Template Properties window,
keep defaults and click OK
30) Begin drawing by clicking on the map
at one end of the line you want to add
31) Each click will add a vertex,
double-click on the end to finish the line
32) To edit the attributes, click on the Attributes button
33) Populate the attributes with the
following data
·
MAJOR1 – 170
·
MINOR1 – 210
·
MAJOR2 – -99999
·
MINOR2 – -99999
·
DESCRIPT – ROAD OR STREET, CLASS 4
34) Click Stop Editing and select Yes
to save edits
35) Label PARCEL_IDs in the SuitableParcels
layer
36) Save map as Data_Editing_BED.mxd
37) Switch to Map View
38) Finalized additional map items
required, ie North Arrow, Legend, Produced by, Title, etc
39) Saved map last time
40) Exported map as Data_Editing_BED.jpg
